Cast Glass

These cast glass pieces are made by using the lost wax casting method. A refractory mould is made from a wax model and the wax then steamed out. Cold billets of glass are placed in the mould in the kiln and fired up to high temperature before being cooled very slowly. Firings may take up to 4 days in the kiln dependent on the size of work. Once fired, the mould is broken away and the glass form revealed. This is then meticulously cold-worked, or polished by hand.
